Today’s class wasn’t as good as I expected to be. I had
the same problem that I faced in a previous class. It’s really difficult
teaching during evaluations period because the students are more concerned about
their exams than paying attention and collaborating during the class. I was
supposed to develop my teaching based on some appendixes the teacher had given
to me, but, as I said before, the students were more focused on their
evaluations and none of them had their appendixes.
So, I had to
change the lesson plan I had prepared and apply another kind of activities;
therefore, after I carried out the warm up, I continued with a dictation
practice; later, I developed some oral exercises to get the students attention.
Finally, I ended my class with a game related to direct/indirect speech. It’s more
than clear that the teaching process is not an easy task and we must be
prepared for everything.
ooOh that´s a big problem. When students are concern about evaluations we as teachers feel like teaching in an empty classroom. Another problem is when they do not have the appendixes. I perfectly understand that. However it is very difficult to have all the students obey what we want. :( But, you should not give up, try something else and things will be better.
ReplyDeleteI understand your point Erick. I think that dealing with students' feelings and worries is a difficult task because we have to play the role of a teacher, a friend and a psychologist. These factors make us have a second plan for unexpected situations, and it is something that just experience can give you.
