Before starting this class, I was kind of anxious because
my tutor teacher hadn’t arrived and it was a little late. So, I decided to call
the teacher but she didn’t answer; that’s why my anxiety increased due to I didn’t
know whether beginning the class without the teacher or keep waiting for her. Fifteen
minutes later she finally arrived. Then, I initiated my teaching with an
activity related to Smoking, in which I wrote on the board the word “Smoking”
twice; later, I asked the students to form 2 lines so that they write on the
board one word per each student. All the words must be related to “Smoking”. Next,
the group with more correct words was the winner.
students if they smoked or had tried at least once. Some of
them admitted they had smoked on time; but others expressed they smoked very
often and it was difficult to quit that bad habit. Next, I told the students to
complete the exercises from the book related to phrasal verbs that were on the
reading. Afterwards, I developed a “find someone who” activity in which the
learners had to stand up and ask their classmates the questions they had in
some pieces of paper I had given them previously. Later, they had to change some
information they had in the papers for some phrasal verbs I had written on the
board. All the activities were developed successfully despite the teacher
arrived late.
I have faced the same experience as you, but fortunately my tutor teacher has not gotten that late as yours, but the anxiety has been the same cuz you do not know what to do if whether start the class without her or not.
ReplyDeletecongrats for your activities; I can see that they have been useful for you!!!
It's tough to face unexpected situations like the one you wrote about, but it's great your practice turned out well after all. I like the vocabulary activity you developed, as it involves also tpr action and relating to students' prior knowledge, nice idea.
ReplyDeleteI'm in agreement with you Erick because I had been in the same situation but what I did is that I started the class on time even though the teacher was not there, I don't know if I did good but to the fact that as teachers we have to be puctual. In addition, to overcome your nerves it is a good idea to start a conversatio with your stuents by asking questions such as How was your weekend? or How you doing today?, In my case it works!!
