In this class I began my teaching
with a new topic related to some modals. First of all, I greeted the students
and talked a little bit with them. Next, I developed a warm up activity in which
the learners had to take some pieces of paper containing some parts of sentences
about the use of the modals I had to introduce. After that, the learners had to
stand up and look for the other parts of the sentences. Then, I introduced the
modals by writing a chart on the board to comparing the modals have to, could, should and must. Subsequently, I explained the use and the differences of them,
and asked the students to write an example on the board using each of the modals I formerly
introduced. I felt glad because they did it correctly and were really collaborative
with me.
In my next activity I asked the
learners to make a circle; then, I started the game by saying I sentence
related to somenthing I could do when I was a child so that the students could
follow the activity by saying my sentence, and a sentence of their own. Thereafter,
I asked them to form groups to give them some pictures about different city
places in order to write rules, prohibitions and recommendations according to the place they had in the
pictures. After they finished writing the rules, prohibitions and recommendations,
they had to read them aloud and the other students had to guess the place they
were talking about. At the end, they had fun while learning how to use those
modals!
By approaching students before starting the class, we might somehow make them feel comfortable and we show or trasmit a kind of friendship and it helps when you are to teach. Great activities the ones you developed. It can be seen that you enjoyed the class which is good as it portrays your satisfaction!!
