MY LAST TEACHING PRACTICUM!!!

Tuesday, November 13th, 2012
Today, I started my last class at this level by developing a guessing game in which I formed two groups and called one representative per each team. After this, I asked the members of the two groups to help their representatives to guess some words I wrote on the board related to inventions. After, the representative guessed the name of the invention, he/she had to say a sentence using the “used to” structure.

EXAMPLE:
INVENTION: The internet
REPRESENTATIVE: before the internet, people used to send letters to communicate with other people.
Then, the group with more correct answers was the winner.

After this, I introduced the topic regarding the used of “used to” and the differences when it is applied as a verb or as an adjective. I provided some examples and the main characteristics of its use. Later, I gave the learners some pieces of paper containing exercises in which they had to use the correct form of “used to”, and classify if it was being used as an adverb or as an adjective.
My last activity consisted of forming couples so that each pair could discuss some questions about things or activities they used to do. After discussing the questions, I asked each couple to report what their partners had told them. Everybody was eager to participate and they did it correctly. To conclude my last teaching practicum, I asked my tutor teacher to take some pictures with the whole group!

Friday, November 09th, 2012
After greeting the students cordially, I opened my penultimate class with a warm up in which I asked the students to form small groups of 4 members. Then, I gave each group a flashcard containing some jobs and professions. As I had to introduce the use of Present perfect simple and Present perfect progressive, I requested each group to form some sentences using Present perfect simple/Present perfect progressive related to the jobs and professions they had in each picture.

For example:
PROFESSION: Architect
SENTENCES: I had been visiting buildings since 9 o’ clock/I had talked to other builders for 2 hours.
After each group said their sentences, the other groups had to guess the job/profession they were talking about, and the group with more correct answers was the winner.

After this, I introduced the topic giving an explanation about the use of FOR, SINCE and BEEN. I wrote on the board a chart which contained the explanation and examples of each word. Subsequently, I gave the learners some pieces of paper containing a dialogue in which they had to identify all the Present perfect simple/Present perfect progressive verbs.  Finally, I asked them to complete the appendixes the tutor teacher had provided them.

2nd. teaching (Intermediate I level)

 Tuesday, October 30th, 2012
In this class I began my teaching with a new topic related to some modals. First of all, I greeted the students and talked a little bit with them. Next, I developed a warm up activity in which the learners had to take some pieces of paper containing some parts of sentences about the use of the modals I had to introduce. After that, the learners had to stand up and look for the other parts of the sentences. Then, I introduced the modals by writing a chart on the board to comparing the modals have to, could, should and must. Subsequently, I explained the use and the differences of them, and asked the students to write an example on the board using each of the modals I formerly introduced. I felt glad because they did it correctly and were  really collaborative with me.

In my next activity I asked the learners to make a circle; then, I started the game by saying I sentence related to somenthing I could do when I was a child so that the students could follow the activity by saying my sentence, and a sentence of their own. Thereafter, I asked them to form groups to give them some pictures about different city places in order to write rules, prohibitions and recommendations  according to the place they had in the pictures. After they finished writing the rules, prohibitions and recommendations, they had to read them aloud and the other students had to guess the place they were talking about. At the end, they had fun while learning how to use those modals!

FIRST CLASS, INTERMEDIATE I (LAST PERIOD)

Thursday, October 25th, 2012
In this class I started my last period in my teaching practicum. As it is normal, I felt   kind of anxious because of the new students I had to meet; nevertheless, it was a nice class. First of all, I began greeting the students and talking with them about the end of the semester, about Christmas, and other things they have planned for the new year.
Then, I continued with a game related to Present Progressive with Future Meaning, in which I showed some pictures to the students so that they had to describe the pictures to their representatives that were at the front; after the representatives guessed the pictures, they had to say a sentence using Present Progressive with future meaning. Everybody had fun while learning and they enjoyed the game.
Next, I introduced the topic giving some examples about the structure regarding Present Progressive with future meaning. I like the fact that they were very participative when explaining the topic and that situation helped me to give a better explanation about the content. After that, I gave the students some fill in the blank exercises in which they had to write the correct form of the verbs given.
Subsequently, I asked the learners to form 3 lines so that they could classify some leisure activities I had written on the board. Everybody did it well and learned new vocabulary related to the activities. Next, I finished my class with some role plays in which the learners had to present short dialogues according to the leisure activities they had classified previously. At the end I was glad because they were very collaborative and participative during the whole class!

LAST CLASS INTERMEDIATE I LEVEL!!!

Thursday, September 20, 2012
I began my last teaching by introducing the new unit about “Sports”. First, I divided the board into two parts and requested the students to form two lines. In each part of the board, the students formed in the lines had to write the name of a sport one by one. Then, I counted the correct sports’ names and the group with more right names was the winner. Subsequently, I presented the new unit by asking the learners if they practice any sport; also, I asked them what they do to keep in shape, what sports they like the most, among others.
Next, I asked them to complete a chart about sports and famous sportmen/women that practices the sports they wrote on their notebooks.
Examples:
sport                                                                                                    famous sportmen/women
soccer                                                                                                                Lionel Messi
tennis                                                                                                                 Roger Federer

After this,  I formed pairs and gave them some questions so that they could practice orally  issues about health, dangerous sports, benefits of practicing sports, how often they exercise, etc. To end the class, I asked some pairs to share their opinions about the questions they talked about.

3rd Entry (Intemediate I level)

Tuesday, September 18,  2012
In this class I started with by asking the students to perform the role plays I had assigned them in the previous class. All of them were very creative when performing their role plays; then, I continued by correcting the oral mistakes they  commited  when carrying out their performances.

Later on, I followed my teaching with a short dictation practice related to the use of gerunds and infinitives; after that, I explained the use and meaning of some expressions like “can’t help”, “can’t afford”, “can’t stand”, among others.

Afterward, I gave the students some sentence strips cut in 3 parts (subject-verb-object) so that they could identify each of the parts and find all the direct objects and indirect objects in the sentences. Then, I asked some learners to write on the board some of the sentences to explain the grammar part about direct and indirect objects.

Second Entry! (Intermediate I level)

In this class I started with a game related to gerunds and infinitives to rewiew the previous classes. The game was “The telephone broken” in which I asked the students to form three lines facing the board. Next, I told the last students in each line a sentence so that they whisper each sentence to their classmates, and the first student in each line had to write the sentences and underline the gerunds or infinitives. At the end of the game all together checked the sentences to see which group had more correct sentences.
Later, I continued my teaching with some exercises from the book in which the learners had to complete some dialogues related to the correct use of gerunds and infinitives. Then, I asked some students to read the conversations to check them all together. Finally, I ended my class with some role plays about different situations, but time was not enough to present all the performances; that’s why I asked just one couple to present it and the rest to carry out their role plays in the next class.
